Source: http://www.Slashgear.com, James Garner’s Rockford drove a 1978 Pontiac Firebird on the TV series. The Sierra Gold color was a non-factory paint chosen by Garner. Mike Garrett of Slashgear reports that Garner, who did many of his own driving stunts, is credited with popularizing the J-turn (an old moonshiner maneuver). It’s popularly known as “Pulling a Rockford.”
